A few years has passed since the Velvet Revolution and the old regime. The world has opened up. The socio-cultural situation has changed alongside with the way of thinking. At the end of 1990s the borders opened up, allowing the discovery of the “world of unlimited opportunities”. There were no more craftsmen; however, there were suddenly IT workers or managers. New opportunities also brought new terminology used in respective field of activities. Anglicisms started appearing in our language and dialects started to disappear, but some regions of Slovakia still have not abandoned them. The paper concerns with the comparison of the amount of anglicisms vs. dialectic used in the vocabulary of the elementary schoolers.
