In paper we will analize Ivo Andric’s novellas from his first collection in order to point out examples of using stereotypes for viewing others. The most interesting usage of stereotype in these novellas is presented by foreigners way of seeing local population of Balkan countries. Usually, foreign view is directly related with superior social position becouse Andric fictionalizes historical epoch in which Bosna and Herzegovina was under Turkish or Austro-Hungarian rule. We will explore usage of stereotypes in these novellas and determine origin of prejudices that are in the base of stereotype view.
