Dear colleagues,

We are happy to inform you that the 62nd Summer Seminar in Bulgarian Language and Culture for Foreign Bulgarian and Slavic Scholars will take place from 13 July to 02 August 2025 at the Rectorate Building of Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski”.

The Seminar is organized by the Faculty of Slavic Philology of Sofia University with the financial support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The Seminar is intended for teachers, researchers and students of Bulgarian and Slavic studies, for translators and for all those interested in the language, literature, history and culture of Bulgaria.

Accommodation will be in the fully renovated rooms in the University’s halls of residence, which are easily accessible by public transport. All participants will be provided with public transport travel cards.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be at the Alma Mater restaurant in the University’s main building, adjacent to the classrooms.

The daily teaching schedule will be structured as follows:

  • mornings:
  • 3 academic hours of practical Bulgarian language for all levels;
  • afternoons:
  • 2 academic hours of practical Bulgarian language with an interactive focus for primary levels;
  • 2 academic hours of specialized lectures in Bulgarian language and Bulgarian literature for advanced levels.[1]

After the end of the daily mandatory classes, the Seminar participants can take advantage of a rich optional cultural program: they will have a choice within a wide range of “workshops,” meetings with writers, visits to museums and galleries, theme walks around Sofia, film screenings, etc., which they can join according to their wishes and interests.

During the weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) there will be two (in total for the entire seminar) day trips outside Sofia, both of them also optional.

Participation in the Seminar (tuition, accommodation, meals and cultural program) is free of charge for those on scholarships from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria (based on cultural programs agreed with the respective country) and from Sofia University (based on the University’s direct agreements with universities and institutions abroad). For self-funding participants, the fee is EUR 670, and for accompanying persons who will not be attending the study sessions – EUR 470.
