Bulgarian Philology

Bulgarian Philology (Full-time and Part-time Programme)

The Bulgarian Philology programme prepares students to become specialists in Bulgarian language and literature, equipping them with a broad cultural background and strong professional qualifications. During their undergraduate studies, students can obtain a teaching qualification, allowing them to become teachers of Bulgarian language and literature in primary and secondary schools through an elective module offered by the faculty.

The curriculum includes various disciplines in linguistics and literary studies, as well as the history of the Bulgarian language and literature. Students gain knowledge of Bulgarian folklore and culture and study the history of different European literatures. The programme also offers students the opportunity to customize their education through elective courses, additional language learning, and other academic choices.

The bachelor’s programme provides numerous opportunities for specialization and study at foreign universities through programmes such as Erasmus+ and scholarships offered by the Ministry of Education and Science. During their studies, students can participate in internships and practical trainings at various organizations, institutions, and companies.

Career Opportunities:
Graduates can work as teachers in secondary and higher education institutions, researchers in academic institutes, journalists and correspondents in the media, proofreaders and editors in publishing houses, public relations specialists, librarians, archivists, museum professionals, and experts in governmental and international institutions, as well as in cultural and public organizations.
