Rights and Obligations

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS

 

Doctoral students can partake in research projects under the Research and Innovation Sector (RIS) at the Faculty of Slavic Studies and as well as other institutions supporting scientific research both in the country and abroad. Doctoral students participate in organizing and conducting seminars, meetings, conferences and other initiatives

Doctoral students are able to take part in exchange programmes, provided by the Faculty, such as the Erasmus+ programme.

Doctoral students attend the meetings of the department committee where issues related to the doctoral degree are discussed, assist in working with graduate students and participate as invigilators during examinations.

The doctoral students have the right to use the libraries, laboratories, and other parts of the faculty facilities for the preparation of their dissertations.

Doctoral students can participate in the general Assembly of Sofia University, in the General Assembly of the Faculty, in the Academic Council and the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Slavic Studies, and in departmental meetings when doctoral-related matters are discussed.

Full-time doctoral students funded by the state are entitled to health insurance, which is provided by Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.

A full-time doctoral student cannot hold a civil service position or work under an employment contract for more than half of the legally established working hours. The working hours must be aligned with study process requirements.

Full-time doctoral students are entitled to university housing.

Full-time doctoral students are given a priority when it comes to accommodation in the dormitories of Sofia University.

Doctoral students pursuing independent study have the same rights as part-time doctoral students.

At the request of the doctoral student, and by decision of the Faculty Council, full-time doctoral studies may be converted into part-time or independent doctoral studies. In such cases, the student is not required to repay the scholarship received.

The doctoral degree may be interrupted for a period of up to two years.

Doctoral students have the right to request a change of their academic supervisor up to three months before the preliminary discussion at the primary academic unit.

Doctoral students may request a change of their dissertation title up to three months before the preliminary discussion at the primary academic unit.

The interest of the students within the faculty are represented by the Faculty Student Council and the Student Council of Sofia University  St. Kliment Ohridski.
