Scientific Work of the Faculty

 

The scientific work of the Faculty of Slavic Studies is carried out in various fields, including literary history and criticism, contemporary research in the field of linguistics, incorporation of new research and teaching methods. Each department has its own independent research profile, which contributes to shaping the overall identity of the faculty as one of the leading centres in the country in the field of Philology.

The scientific calendar of the Faculty is shaped by several conferences organized annually by the individua departments, as well as by the traditional spring Slavic Readings, Bulgarian Studies Readings, and the Cyril and Methodius Readings.

Each year, an average of around 23 research project proposals are defended within the Faculty of Slavic Studies by research teams in collaboration with students and doctoral candidates. Some of their work programmes include the organization of academic conferences or support with the participation in international and national scholarly events.

In the last five years, research work has been carried out and successfully defended on 8 projects funded under SUMMIT initiative (Sofia University Marking Momentum for Innovation and Technological Transfer), which is supported by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Component Innovative Bulgaria, Investment 1: Programme for Accelerating Economic Recovery and Transformation through Science and Innovation. Additional funding has also been provided by the Research Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria.

On average, the faculty publishes 15 scholarly works each year, including monographs, collections, teaching materials, and manuals. The academic output of the Faculty of Slavic Studies also includes around 80 articles per year, published in journals indexed in global databases such as Scopus and web of science.

The Faculty supports the publication of several periodicals: The Yearbook of the Faculty of Slavic Studies, Literaturata, Comparative Linguistics, Clloquia Comparativa Litterarum, International Philological Forum, and Contemporary Linguistics. The journals Littera et Lingua and Bulgarska Rech are currently on temporary hiatus but have also contributed significantly to the Faculty’s academic profile.
