Slavic Philology (Full-time Programme)
The Slavic Philology programme is a five-year course of study that leads to a master’s degree. In the final year, students choose between a linguistic or literature master’s specialization. Graduates of this programme hold two equivalent qualifications: specialist in Slavic philology and specialist in Bulgarian philology. Throughout their studies, students have the option to obtain a teaching qualification (teacher of Bulgarian language and literature).
Within the programme, students are divided into five profiles: Polish, Czech, Serbian and Croatian (with Slovenian language), Slovak, and Ukrainian. Foreign lecturers, native speakers from the respective countries, are involved in the language study. Each profile includes the study of a second Slavic language over the course of two semesters. Students in the Slavic Philology programme study the language, literature, and culture of the respective Slavic countries, Bulgarian language and literature, linguistic and literary disciplines, translation theory and practice, and more.
Throughout their studies, students have a number of opportunities for specialization and learning at foreign universities, as well as internships and practical training at various Bulgarian organizations, institutions, and companies.
Career Opportunities:
Graduates can work as translators, editors, teachers of Bulgarian language and literature, university lecturers, researchers at academic institutes, journalists, and media correspondents. Graduates of this programme work in government and international institutions, public and cultural organizations, international diplomatic and commercial relations, as well as in private and state-run companies in diverse sectors such as trade, outsourcing, tourism, and services.
