Balkan Studies

Balkan Studies (Full-time Programme)

The Balkan Studies programme is a five-year course of study that concludes with a master’s degree. The programme includes an equal number of hours dedicated to three Balkan languages: Romanian, Albanian, and Greek, with the possibility of additional hours in the final year. Alongside this, students receive instruction in Bulgarian. The history of the Balkans from Antiquity to the present, as well as Balkan literatures and cultures, is explored. Students also have the opportunity to attend language courses in Balkan countries and participate in exchange programmes with foreign universities. As a result of this comprehensive education, students acquire in-depth knowledge of the linguistic, cultural, and socio-historical processes of the Balkans, as well as their relations with Europe.

Career Opportunities:
Graduates can work as translators, diplomats, journalists, editors, employees in international companies, in state and European institutions, in the non-governmental sector, as tour guides, tour operators, teachers of Balkan languages, and researchers in academic organizations.
